International Day of Peace 2011: Make Your Voice Heard!

September 21st is the UN International Day of Peace, first established by the General Assembly 30 years ago. What’s so important about a day? Well, this day has become a magnet for people all over the world who are helping to build a culture of peace in all its glorious diversity to highlight the one goal that has eluded humanity throughout its history but without which none of the others can be achieved: peace on Earth.
Government leaders are gathering at UN headquarters in New York this week to talk about peace, while people everywhere are actually making it happen. This year’s theme for the International Day of Peace is “Peace and Democracy: make your voice heard!” This reflects the emergence of the Arab Spring, arising through the people power of the Internet.
A day of peace that belongs to no one and to everyone is an evolutionary concept, helping to synergize the hearts and minds of peacemakers everywhere in a way that was never possible before. And everyone can take part in the wave of light circling the globe by simply observing a Minute of Silence at 12 noon or celebrating in whatever way you choose during the week around Peace Day. There are events all over the world posted at www.internationaldayofpeace.org and a virtual Peace Week featuring many Evolutionary Leaders at http://peaceweek2011.com.
In 2011, there is much focus on the tenth anniversary of September 11th, which has encouraged a whole range of programs on various aspects of a culture of peace grouped as the 11 Days of Global Unity http://we.net/11days.
But 2012 will bring an entirely new set of energies and initiatives for peace, once again with the UN International Day of Peace providing a central focus and launch pad. These will include: Peace Day 2012 - A Day of Global Truce, Push4Peace, the 2012 Summer of Peace, and a series of free concerts around the world called World Peace: LIVE. In case you ever wondered what the transformation of human consciousness to a culture of peace would look like, stay tuned!
May Peace Prevail on Earth.
