Amb. Mussie Hailu is a peace builder who is working at national, regional and international level in promoting peace, reconciliation, interfaith harmony, disarmament, compassion, world citizenship, building right human relationship, mutual respect, human dignity, constructive dialogue and building bridges of partnership for the good for all. He works against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. He spread in the world the teaching of Golden Rule “Treat others the way you want to be treated”.
is a founding member of United Religions Initiative (URI) and currently serving URI as Director of Global Partnership and Representative to the African Union and UN office in Africa & Geneva.
He fosters partnership between grass root and policy makers and people to people relations between many countries and pioneered positive initiatives in Africa including an interfaith movement in his own country in Ethiopia and in many other African Countries. His initiative includes a "Declaration for Peace" distributed worldwide during the 50th anniversary of the United Nations in 1995. He was the engine for the peace monument, which is erected at the Organization of African Unity now known as African Union.
He introduced the celebration of the Golden Rule Day to foster inter-religious, inter-cultural harmony and to build mutual respect, human dignity and to overcome violent extremism and hate speech. The Golden Rule Day is now celebrated in many part of the world and the Golden Rule Proclamation he drafted in 2007 is endorsed by organizations in over 120 countries
He is recognized among 73 people around the world who are selected for their outstanding contribution to humanity. He is the recipient of the Prestigious Silver Star Award of The International Strategic Studies Association. He received Humanitarian Award of the year from H.R.H Prince Ermais Haile-selassie, The Grandson of the late Emperor of Ethiopia and President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia.
