Conscious Business Declaration Defines New Standard for Business for the 21st Century

Among those who have agreed to be founding signatories are the following Evolutionary Leaders: Gregg Braden, Rinaldo Brutoco, Duane Elgin, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Bruce Lipton, Jennifer McLean, Deborah Moldow, Lynne Twist, and Neale Donald Walsch, founder of Humanity’s Team. Over 1,000 have signed the Declaration to date. On May 9, the Conscious Business Curriculum launched with 71 enrollments, each of whom has the potential to become a Certified Conscious Business Agent (CCBA). And this is only the beginning!

3.    Goes beyond sustainability, and “do no harm” by focusing on restoring the earth’s health.

4.    Operates with economic, social and ecological transparency.

5.    Acts as good global citizens and respects human dignity and fairness.

More than 100,000 people have signed the Fuji Declaration (created by The Goi Peace Foundation and The Club of Budapest) and the Oneness Declaration (produced by Humanity’s Team), pledging their support “for a civilization of Oneness with diversity on planet Earth.” The Conscious Business Declaration was developed in the spirit of these earlier declarations, but with a particular focus on business.

And the Declaration is just the beginning. A Conscious Business Training and Certification for change agents will put the Declaration into action by teaching people how to institute a conscious business model. In addition, in August 2016, a vibrant community of business transformation practitioners will launch, called the Community of Practice. Together, the Declaration, the Curriculum and the Community of Practice provide the basis for a structured methodology to help companies develop both the awareness and skills needed to consciously evolve their organizations.

Are You Accepting or Tolerating?

Dear Spiritual Partner,

The difference between acceptance and tolerance is the difference between authentic power and pursuing external power. Acceptance is open heartedness. What you accept moves through your life without resistance. You do not withhold your love. You live free in a beautiful open meadow, and what you accept is in the meadow with you, close, cherished, and welcome.

Tolerance is judgment. It is a defensive stance. You think that you will not be able to change someone, and you decide to tolerate him rather than to try to change him. When you decide to be polite in order to preserve peace in your family, for example, you are tolerating a family member. You would prefer not to interact with her, but interactions are unavoidable.

Acceptance comes from loving parts of your personality. Tolerance comes from frightened parts of your personality. Your judgments remain. They are the reasons for your tolerance. When you tolerate others, you tolerate yourself and your life at the same time. When you accept others, you accept yourself yourself and others at the same time. Moving from tolerance of your life to acceptance of it, from judgment of your life to gratitude for it, requires recognizing when frightened parts of your personality are tolerating in fear and when loving parts of your personality are accepting in love, and choosing love.

Acceptance does not mean becoming passive, or living a vanilla flavored life without initiative or creativity. You cannot challenge a frightened part of your personality without experiencing its pain - for example, the pain of not having the last word in a power struggle. Acceptance allows you to experience where you are in the moment, but it does not require you to stay there when you are in fear. It enables you to experience the painful emotions of frightened parts of your personality so that you can challenge them and the blissful emotions of loving parts of your personality so that you can cultivate them.

This creates authentic power.

Liminal Consciousness: Threshold of Miracles

A while ago, I found myself using the word liminal when describing the practices and perspectives of the Evolutionary Collective. Given the emergent nature of this work, it often happens that the living logos of this consciousness chooses words and images that I come to understand more fully after they are spoken and worked with. The consciousness of the new paradigm is an expression of the power of the ‘space between’ or the liminal.

The concept of liminality was first developed in the early 20th century by anthropologist Arnold van Gennep and then later expanded upon by Victor Turner.  It comes from the Latin word limen, which means ‘a threshold’.  It is used to describe the transition phase in a ritual – the ambiguous and disorienting space that occurs when our sense of identity before the ritual is no more and the new  sense of self hasn’t arisen. We stand at the ‘threshold’ between our previous reality and way of structuring our experience and the new reality we are moving into.

You may have heard the word used in Tibetan Buddhism for the bardo state – the “transitional state” or “in-between state” or “liminal state”. Used loosely, the term “bardo” refers to the intermediate state of existence between lives on earth.  The liminal space lies between the known and the unknown – the space is a transitional space of heightened intensity. When we are in the midst of true creativity we are in a liminal space.

If you feel into your sense of the ‘liminal’ right now – the subtle space between any sense of identity you’ll find there is something there that is neither and both and more.  There is a dimensionalization of consciousness that allows us to exist in a kind of quantum reality where both ‘the particle and the wave’ co-exist.  The practice of mutual awakening allows people to focus on this liminal space.  Some people think it’s a simple practice that allows two people to be in the present moment with one another and go into a deeper space of relationship.  Of course, that happens but there is a much deeper invitation to develop, over time, a capacity to reside in this liminal consciousness.  I feel this is the consciousness we are being invited to move into as a species.

In the current paradigm our self-reflective consciousness gives rise to linear thinking, deep interiority, rationality, witnessing, mindfulness and the awareness of choice.  The consciousness of the new paradigm arises in the space between – it’s both the wave and the particle simultaneously – it’s the sense of unity that includes a clear experience of individuation that doesn’t depend on being fixed in any way.  It doesn’t depend on groundedness and embodiment.  It effortlessly includes those elements but the locus of consciousness is elsewhere.  In extreme sports, athletes sometimes defy the laws of time and space – they move into what I am calling the liminal, a powerful flow state where new potentials are possible.  They become the whole, while functioning individually from a place of pure spontaneity and choicelessness and a portal opens that allows for the impossible to occur.

As we learn to release our identification with being fixed entities (the particle) and allow ourselves to exist in a kind of multidimensional freedom we may discover openings that allow us to ‘pop-through’ into new worlds, with new solutions.  Could it be that that is the new paradigm?  A consciousness that allows for new realities to display themselves without the painful linear struggle as a fixed identity in a fixed reality with laws of cause and effect?  Our normal sense of identity (egoic structure) is more or less fixed – in the current paradigm we work to heal that sense of identity, we learn to ground ourselves deeply within and heal and grow.  Maybe in the new paradigm – we discover that the origination point of Being is always there – so unique and so profound is our experience of being ‘home’ that we no longer need to be so solid and fixed.  New paradigms really are ‘new’ paradigms.

Wormholes are bridges through space-time that create a shortcut from one reality to another.  The consciousness we are exploring in the Evolutionary Collective is liminal in nature – a consciousness that is wormhole friendly.  The ‘space-between’ is a 24/7 consciousness that we are living in and giving to that is dissolving the need for a solid sense of self.  As we practice together, our unique point of existence (the point) is alive, vibrant and scintillatingly awake and the ‘wave’ or flow of existence simultaneously arises.  Liminality, the space between, the both/and, spontaneity and multidimensionality are all characteristics of the consciousness.

One of the definitions of liminal is ‘barely perceptible’ and of or relating to a sensory threshold.  The subtle and causal dimensions are invisible.  We need to develop soft eyes and highly sensitized inner senses to remain available to occupy this liminal world and develop a tolerance for being more invisible.  It’s a place where more people will not be able to see or understand you and the results that are occurring around you.  A liminal persona is a different category of existence.  The more power you are able to access in this dimension, the more invisible and the more effective you become.  It helps to remember that as human beings, we can never see beyond our own level of development.  So even though the consciousness and the power of it may not be recognized easily – those who are sharing the space of this consciousness of awakened mutuality have the joy of discovering what its potentials are together.

The dissolution of order during liminality creates a fluid, malleable situation that enables new forms to arise.  We speak of emergence – but it’s usually inside the unexamined current perspective of thinking emergence is an action that happens between solid realities – rather than an ongoingness – a quality of consciousness that exists ‘as emergence’.

I don’t know what it is about this work you’ve created that is allowing for this delicious and fascinating flow. This “I” experiences a broader arch of “we” brought into focus as this singular “I” and then traipses out in curiosity and delight again to collect more of the “we” among the local fields in which it plays.

There seems a felt, but unlanguaged, commitment underlying the interplay, which appears to be sourcing it and that is quite perfect. I no longer need to “know” its/our intent as I trust the we/I. The farther afield the “I” goes the more difficult it may be to describe but there is more of a sense of being “at home”. I am welcomed by the “we” and “they” quite happily merge into one……dancing into a multitude of musical collections, each with its own distinct loveliness.

A liminal moment :)

Does the Next President Matter?

As I travel around the country discussing my new book The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man and meeting with people from all walks of life, I hear a great deal of discouragement over the U.S. presidential election. So I try to encourage people to look at the positive side and see what we can affect. Here are a couple of key points:

1) The extreme divergence between the left and the right indicates that a huge segment of our population is very dissatisfied with the current system. I call this the Death Economy, one based on wars, fear, debt and the destruction of our Earth’s resources. This unsustainable economy is failing us on a global level.

2) Although the next president will be important symbolically, it’s essential to recognize that his or her powers are very limited. For example, we used to think that one of the most influential things the president could do was to appoint U.S. Supreme Court justices. Even that is in serious question now as many Republicans say they will not even consider an Obama nominee.

All of us must understand that we the people have the real power. 

Governmental systems, including most of our elected officials, are controlled by the global corporations who finance their campaigns and offer them lucrative consulting jobs if they lose or decide not to run for office. However, these global corporations are dependent on us, you and me, to buy their goods and services, invest in them, and support them through our tax dollars and government policies. So, during this election year, please commit to taking action, regardless of who is elected.

What you and I do every single day counts. There is a perceived reality that this Death Economy is the only reality. The truth is that revolutions have always occurred when people alter their perceived reality. In the 1770s, there was a perceived reality that the British army was invincible. When people changed that reality and understood that the British could be defeated by American farmers and hunters who stood behind trees and fired at the ridged lines of British troops, everything changed.

We are at one of those moments today. We are faced with a serious crisis as the rhetoric gets worse and political parties seem irrelevant. You and I need to understand the power that we have—each of us as individuals and as a community. So yes, vote in this next election but also realize that no matter who is elected, we must do our part every single day. We must convince the corporations that depend on us to move from a Death Economy based on fear, doubt, and the destruction of resources to a Life Economy based on regenerating destroyed environments, cleaning up pollution, and alleviating the causes of desperation and terrorism.

It isn’t so much about who next sits in the Oval Office or even changing the mechanics of economics. It is about changing the ideas, the dogmas that currently drive politics and economics: debt and fear, insufficiency, divide and conquer. It is about moving from ideas about merely being sustainable to ones that include regenerating areas devastated by agriculture, mining, and other destructive activities. It is about We the People taking control. It is about a revolution in consciousness and actions. It is about making the transition from a Death Economy to a Life Economy.

A turning point in the American revolution occurred when Thomas Paine helped change the perceived reality by writing, “If there must be trouble, let it be in my day that my child may have peace.” This is another time of crisis, a time to follow Paine’s advice. It is a time to own up to our power and not expect the president or any other politician to change the world for us. It is a time for us to act in ways that will assure peace for our children.
